Pokeball Nail Art

Hey everyone! In today's post I'm going to be showing you another nerdy nail art design that I did on my sister. It's actually been quite fun practicing on her. Attempted a galaxy nail art design and that failed so I decided to try something a little bit easier. That's when I decided to do pokeballs!

This one was more fun to do because growing up as kids my sisters and I all loved Pokemon. I know I didn't do this design perfect and I would redo a few things if I was to do it again but overall I still think it looks pretty good. Below I'll list everything you'll need and explain how I achieved this nail design.

The things that you'll need:

  • Red and white nail polish - I used China Glaze White on White (would have used a different white if I was to redo this) and Wet n Wild Everyone Loves Redmond.
  • Black and white acrylic paint - These are just some freebies I got from school, feel free to use any brand.
  • Tape - This is used to tape the nail in half to give the pokeball a straight line.
  • Nail art brush - I actually used two but I did not really like the other one so I didn't decide to include it. The one above is from my MASH nail art brush set.

Here are the steps to achieve the perfect pokeball: 1) Paint your nails two coats of white and wait for it to completely dry. 2) Tape half of your nail off and paint the non taped side red. 3) Paint a black line straight down the middle and add a black dot to the center. 4) Once the black has dried add a white dot in the center of the black dot. 5) Seal your design off with a fast drying top coat.

I actually really like this design and might do this one on myself. Did you ever watch Pokemon as a child? Would you do this design on yourself? Let me know in a comment below.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have an awesome day! xoxo, Carly

Star Trek Nail Art

Today I'm going to be posting about the awesome Star Trek nail art I've done on my sisters nails. Andie is a complete nerd and loves Star Trek so when she found this pin on Pinterest she had to have me do it on her. Of course I did it because I love doing nails and need the practice on other people.

I'm usually not very good at nail art on other people but this design was so easy and it didn't take a lot of time to do. Below is everything that you'll need and an explanation of how to do it.

What you'll need:

  • A red, blue, yellow, gold, and black nail polish - I didn't have a yellow nail polish that was like this so I painted her ring finger white with China Glaze White on White and used a yellow acrylic paint. The red is Wet n Wild Everyone loves Redmond, the blue is SinfulShine Most Sinful, and the black is Wet n Wild Ebony Hates Chris. I also used Sally Hansen Golden-I for the emblem (forgot it in the picture).
  • A base/top coat - For the base coat I used Noir All In One and for the top coat I used Seche Vite.
  • Tape - This will be used for the triangles.
  • Angled nail art brush - I found that an angled brush works best for the emblem on the shirts.

First I applied a base coat and then painted each finger either red, blue, or yellow and waited for it to be completely dry. If you don't wait for it to dry the tape can pull up the nail polish. I then applied the tape to make a v shape at her cuticle. I used the black to fill it in and then immediately removed the tape. I then took a gold nail polish and an angled nail art brush to make the Star Trek emblem. I waited about 10 minutes and finally applied a top coat.

This design was super easy and it turned out pretty cool! What did you think of this nail design? I'd love to know! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have an awesome day! xoxo, Carly

MASH Nail Art Brush Review

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

So today I'm going to review the MASH nail art brushes. I got my set of MASH brushes here. I choose this set over others because it was cheap, had a variety of brushes, and was free shipping.

What I liked:
  • They are cheap - They are only $11 with free shipping so they are a good deal.
  • They come with a roll to store the brushes in - I think that the brush roll is extremely useful, especially when I want to store the brushes away when I'm not using them.
  • Good variety of brushes - There is pretty much every brush you may need in this kit. They have stripers, fan brushes, and smaller detailing brushes.
  • Shipping - Shipping on this wasn't bad.
What I didn't like:
  • The smell - When I first got these brushes they had a strong chemical smell. I had stored these in my bedroom and it even made my entire room smell like chemicals. It wasn't pleasant and it even gave me a headache.
  • They stain easily - I don't mind that they stain because I knew they were going to eventually but some of these brushes have only been used once or twice and have pretty nasty stains making them look really gross.
  • Fraying - I was super careful with washing them because I knew they would fray but even being careful they still frayed something terrible. Some brushes are even unusable now after only one use because they have frayed so badly

Overall, I think this is a great beginners brush set. I know for me I would not be comfortable shelling out a pretty penny on a better quality set when I'm just a beginner in nail art. I know eventually I will want to when I'm better at nail art but for now this set works for me.

Have you tried these brushes out? What did you think of them? Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have an awesome day! xoxo, Carly

Blue & Purple Leopard Print Nail Art

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Hey everyone! In my nail polish obsession tag post I said I was going to post about this mani that I'm wearing so that's just exactly what I'm going to be doing today. I had wanted to post swatches of the Noir nail polishes before posting this but I don't have the heart to take this design off my nails yet. So onto the post! Below are the tools and nail polishes you will need:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

  • 2 small nail art brushes - I got my set of MASH brushes here
  • Black acrylic paint - Any brand will work. I just am using a freebie that I got from school.
  • A base coat - The one I used is Noir All In One
  • Two Colors - I used Noir in Splash & Miami Sunrise
  • Top Coat - I used my all time favorite top coat Seche Vite.

First I applied my base coat and then two coats of the base color polish. I waited for that to completely dry before I moved on. After that I took the black acrylic paint and started with my leopard design. I just made small c shapes and added a few dots in between. I then filled in the c shapes with another color. I chose to do the opposite colors on the ring and thumb. Overall, I really like how this turned out. Usually I have trouble with any sort of animal print so I'm proud of myself for this one.

So what do you think of this mani? What colors would you do this in? Let me know in a comment below! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have an awesome day! xoxo, Carly
